May is Community Action Month, a time to come together, speak up, and spark change. Across the Gulf Coast, Prism is lifting up youth voices, celebrating bold self-expression, and building stronger community ties.
We’ll begin by sharing truth and creativity at Open Book, our collaborative youth storytelling event led by students from Davidson High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA). Then, we’ll break bread and build community at the Solidarity Potluck Picnic, a gathering of local LGBTQ+ organizations from across southwest Alabama. This is a chance to connect with community leaders, hear from inspiring speakers, and learn how we can navigate challenges and build safer spaces together.
And finally, we’ll step into the spotlight for Bent Broadway—a bold, gender-bending musical showcase that reimagines tradition and officially launches Pride Month here in Mobile. With three performances, including a special Pride matinee, this year’s production sets the stage for a season of visibility, joy, and surprises still to come.

Prism Teens (Ages 14-18) ✨ Saturdays, May 10, 17 & 24
May is all about momentum and meaning for Prism Teens! We’ll start with Open Book on May 3, a powerful evening of youth storytelling led by Davidson High School’s GSA—no regular gathering that day. The rest of the month brings hands-on fun and community-building: an uplifting Affirmation Hunt, a bold Campaign for Change, and a collaborative Community Puzzle to wrap it all up.

Prism Families (Parents & Family Members) ✨ Thursdays, May 1 & 15
On May 1, join us for a meaningful discussion on the Intersection of Neurodivergence & Queerness, a space to explore how overlapping identities shape experiences and support needs within LGBTQ+ families. Then, on May 15, we’ll gather for a relaxed Coffee & Community Social Hour, a chance for caregivers to connect, share stories, and build relationships in a welcoming, low-pressure setting.

Prism Preteens (Ages 10-13) ✨ Thursdays, May 1 & 15
On May 1, Art & Action Night invites preteens to dive into hands-on fun with puzzle-making and friendly puzzle races because sometimes solving things together is the best way to learn about each other. Then, on May 15, we’ll keep the momentum going with Game Night: Building Community, where teamwork and connection take center stage through fast-paced group games.

The countdown is on! Bent Broadway returns in just four weeks! Bigger, bolder, and more vibrant than ever, this gender-bending musical showcase uplifts LGBTQ+ youth and celebrates the power of performance to spark joy and inspire change.
