Supporting the families who support their LGBTQ youth
Since the birth of Prism United, we’ve heard over and over from family members concerned for the well-being of their LGBTQ loved ones. As we get to know these families, we discover that they too feel isolated and fearful as they grapple with the news of their loved one’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The reality is, family of LGBTQ youth need support, too. That’s why, at the beginning of the school year, Prism United is launching a new program: Prism Families.
Prism Families will provide a judgment-free space where parents and other familiy members of LGBTQ youth can find grief support, friendship, and a better understanding of what their LGBTQ loved one is going through. Gatherings will be led by trained facilitators, and participants’ identities will be kept confidential.
Prism Families will meet twice a month at the same time and location as Prism Youth Preteens. Interested? For meeting details, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prism United responds to the comprehensive needs of LGBTQ youth. Specifically, Prism works to mitigate the psychological, socio-economic, and academic disadvantages caused by repression and victimization.
