Adventure Awaits!

November marks Adventure Month at Prism United, a time to explore, connect, and try something new as the leaves continue to fall. We’re inviting everyone to take part in activities that spark curiosity and create shared memories.

This month our programs range from scavenger hunts to an immersive game night, all designed to encourage self-discovery and build community. Join us for a month filled with fun, growth, and new experiences.

Core Programs

Prism Teens will meet weekly on Saturdays to explore activities encouraging creativity, teamwork, and self-exploration. November’s lineup includes character-building exercises, an adventurous scavenger hunt, and a gameshow-inspired surprise. The month wraps up with Adventure Night on Saturday, November 23, an immersive experience that promises fun and connection.

Prism Families will gather on Thursdays, November 7 and 21, for discussions that foster understanding and build supportive relationships. This month’s gatherings feature an interactive sharing session and a deep dive into creating a Personal Bill of Rights, designed to empower and uplift our members.

Prism Preteens, a support group for LGBTQ+ youth ages 10-13, meets Thursdays, November 7 and 21, and follows a virtue-based program where participants earn badges. This November, join us for the Love Yourself session with activities like a scavenger hunt, show and tell, and star jar crafting. The month concludes with a Love Badge Ceremony, celebrating growth and achievements in a supportive setting.

Come Out Mobile Gala 2024

Come Out Mobile 2024 was a night to remember, thanks to everyone who played a part in making it unforgettable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors: Alabama PowerAIDS Alabama South, Gabriel’s Downtown, Open Table United Church of Christ, Laurie Owen & Laurie Hill, Margaret & Harvie Jordan, and This-Is Stefan for their generous support. We proudly celebrated our 2024 Trailblazers: Elvin Nelson (in memoriam), Natalie Fox, Suzanne Cleveland, and Venus Shante DaVis, whose surprise performance was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our appreciation goes out to Darwin Singleton for being an outstanding emcee and King Braxton Hicks for unforgettable performances.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and participated in the auctions. Together, we are building a future where young people in our community feel safe, seen, and supported.

CenterLink’s 2024 Leadership Summit

Members of the Prism team had the incredible opportunity to attend CenterLink‘s 2024 Leadership Summit, joining leaders from LGBTQ community centers across the country. Thanks to the support from the CenterLink Center Capacity Building Initiative (CCBI) grant, we experienced inspiring keynotes, meaningful “By Us-For Us” programming, and countless opportunities to connect and share ideas. The summit fostered learning, collaboration, and a shared vision for impactful action, empowering us to strengthen our work and better serve our community.

We return from this experience energized and ready to implement new strategies and insights, driven by the unity and purpose that defined this powerful gathering.

The third annual Jack O’ Lantern Jubilee was an unforgettable night filled with laughter, chills, and Halloween magic! We’re beyond grateful for everyone who brought this event to life and made it a standout celebration. Special thanks to The Teen Advocates for Risk Prevention (T.A.R.P.) and AIDS Alabama South for their invaluable collaboration, ghostsocial for their engaging performances, and Nadine from Sterling Event Design for transforming the space into a perfect Halloween haunt. A big shoutout to Darius Webb for the delectable treats, and to tarot readers Dante and Madison for adding a touch of mystery. And shoutout to the Alabama Contemporary Art Center for providing such a captivating venue.

Most importantly, thank you to our amazing staff and volunteers who made the evening a true success. Here’s to another hauntingly good Halloween and a year full of memories to cherish!
