The Eastern Shore Celebrates Pride

A few years ago, the LGBTQ+ community in Fairhope, AL decided to celebrate Pride by leaving messages of hope, love and support to the community using sidewalk chalk at a local city park. What started with words on the concrete grew into artwork, with a message of love and acceptance woven like a tapestry around a Fairhope walking trail. Today, members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies continue the message during our annual Coloring Fairhope with Pride festival and celebration. This annual June event has grown into the largest Pride celebration festival on Baldwin County’s Eastern Shore and brings together all citizens for an afternoon of community.

Yet, Color Fairhope With Pride (CFWP) is more than just an annual celebration; it’s a powerful statement of unity and allyship for the LGBTQ+ community on the Eastern Shore. It’s a gathering where LGBTQ+ youth and adults can witness the unwavering support that surrounds us year-round. From family activities available throughout the park, live performances on stage, and a generous turnout of vendors representing supportive businesses, organizations, and local projects in the area, CFWP sends a clear message: we are not alone, and we belong here.

Who are we?

Coloring the Eastern Shore (CES) is a new nonprofit emerging out of Prism United, now operating as an independent entity while Prism functions as its fiscal sponsor. CES works to increase visible support for the LGBTQ+ community and create safe spaces along the Eastern Shore, Baldwin County, and the Gulf Coast. We plan, sponsor, and provide various fundraising events and community-building projects (including CFWP and a drag brunch) for the LGBTQ+ community. We strive to work within the greater Baldwin County community to foster inclusivity and understanding in all areas of the Alabama Gulf Coast.
