Trailblazers of Our Community

Launched in 2024, the Trailblazer Initiative honors individuals who have shaped and strengthened Mobile’s LGBTQ+ community. The following videos introduce our inaugural class of Trailblazers and the stories that define their impact.

Dr. Natalie Fox

A nationally recognized healthcare leader and fierce advocate, Dr. Natalie Fox has advanced LGBTQ+ health through HIV prevention, affirming care, and public health leadership. Her work has helped drive meaningful progress for LGBTQ+ people across the region.

Venus Shante DaVis

An award-winning drag icon and beloved community figure, Venus Shante DaVis has shaped Mobile’s LGBTQ+ cultural landscape through performance, mentorship, and care for the next generation.

Suzanne Cleveland

A founding force of PFLAG Mobile, Suzanne Cleveland has spent decades supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. Her compassion and advocacy have guided countless families toward understanding, acceptance, and love.

In Memorium: Elvin Nelson

Co-owner of Gabriel’s, a cornerstone of Mobile’s LGBTQ+ history, Elvin Nelson helped create a space of safety, connection, and belonging for decades. His legacy lives on in the community he helped build.
