Prism Families

For Families with LGBTQ+ Loved Ones

Family Gatherings

The Prism Families program offers support groups for parents, guardians, and other family members of LGBTQ+ youth. Gatherings include a brief educational component followed by an open floor discussion where participants share about the struggles and triumphs of supporting their LGBTQ+ loved ones. No matter where you are on the journey, you’re welcome at Prism Families.

Learn from Experts

We do what we can to equip parents with the knowledge and local resources they need to support their children. Since the genesis of the Prism Families program in 2019, we’ve brought in a number of special guests including therapists, educators, and legal experts to answer questions about care for LGBTQ+ adolescents and the rights of LGBTQ+ youth in the classroom.

Thirty-five years ago, my son, fresh out of college, wrote me a letter revealing he was gay. Despite having LGBTQ+ friends, facing this reality with my own child felt profoundly different. Back then, in Mobile, there was no Prism United—no local organization I could turn to for guidance, support, or education on how to navigate this journey with love. It was an isolating experience, one that I navigated with more questions than answers. Today, knowing that Prism United exists to provide comprehensive support for families like ours feels like a dream realized.
