Cultural Competency Training
When We Launched Prism we set out to mitigate the “psychological, socio-economic, and academic disadvantages caused by repression and victimization.” Repression and victimization often start with stigmatization—being regarded as shameful or disgraceful—and LGBTQ people are most stigmatized when they’re least understood. So one way we can improve the lives of LGBTQ youth is to raise awareness and understanding about LGBTQ people within the communities to which they belong.
Prism has provided LGBTQ cultural competency training in academic spaces, places of worship, and for mental health providers in the Mobile area.
Competency training can improve team cohesion, minimize risk of legal conflict, and—most importantly— reduce the suffering of LGBTQ individuals in your midst. If your workspace, classroom, clinic, program, or organization could benefit from one of our presentations, reach out to us at info@prismunited.org.
